When I first stepped into a leadership role, I felt a mixture of excitement and anxiety. I was eager to make a difference, but I quickly realized how much I had to learn. I didn’t have the tools or guidance I needed to navigate the transition from being an individual contributor to leading a team. As a result, I found myself struggling with burnout, overwhelmed by expectations, and unsure how to manage my own well-being while supporting others.

I wish a program like this was offered to me earlier in my career—one that could have helped me develop the foundational leadership skills I needed, while also emphasizing the importance of taking care of myself. That’s why I created this program: to offer emerging leaders like you the resources, guidance, and support I wish I had before becoming a leader.

Program Overview

The New Leaders Program (NLP) is a comprehensive, virtual leadership development course designed exclusively for emerging leaders in California's public sector. Whether you're a new leader or have recently stepped into a mid-level leadership role, this program will equip you with the foundational leadership skills needed to thrive in the dynamic and often challenging public sector environment.

With a focus on personal development, team building, and fostering a culture of well-being, NLP will give you the tools you need to be an effective, mindful, and sustainable leader. The course will guide you through the essential stages of leadership, helping you navigate the transition from individual contributor to leader while combating burnout and stress through healthy habits and mindfulness practices.

Michael Leytem has been a leadership coach and talent management consultant since 2011. He has worked with hundreds of Fortune 500 leaders to customize talent strategies and leadership solutions that drive personal and organizational growth. As a published academic, with an M.A. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Michael has studied the mental processes and social pressures that influence effective leadership. His life-long passion for leadership, psychology, and mindfulness transcends throughout his work and interactions with others.

Alisha Leytem is a Certified Wellness Coach, Yoga Teacher, and Meditation Guide combining her passions for healthy living, mindfulness and authentic leadership to guide others in creating lasting changes for their physical, mental, and spiritual growth. Alisha founded Alisha Leytem, LLC in 2015 and authored a book, The Six Golden Keys to Well-Being, which was published in 2022.  To support personal and organizational growth, Alisha designs and facilitates unique wellness offerings.
