Second, encourage help-seeking by creating a culture where that is the norm (1). A giver is more successful when they can also be a receiver of help. Make it someone’s sole job to help or support the other employees in the organization. An example that Adam Grant mentions is a study that found nurses were more likely to ask for assistance and resources from the help-desk created for them if it was readily available to them and on their floor. If your organization building has multiple floors or departments, Grant recommends there to be at least one designated employee support desk on each floor to increase employees’ likelihood to reach out and receive assistance. Is your organization willing to implement this simple, but effectively culture-shifting suggestion?
Need support in how to implement this, discussing logistics, or assistance with change management, reach out to Ryan Tucker, Sales Director at Catching Leadership, at rtucker@catchingleadership.com or visit www.catchingleadership.com.
